Ben has more than a decade of experience working on local, state, national, and international campaigns for non-profits, candidates, and ballot efforts. Most recently Ben served as the lobbyist for the Colorado Environmental Coalition (CEC). As the lobbyist Ben was responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of the conservation community priorities at the legislature. This included day to day lobby coordination, coordinating field efforts for key bills and extensive knowledge of the “issue” politics for house and senate districts across the state. During Ben’s two years with CEC, the conservation community passed over 100 “pro-conservation” bills including several first-in-the-nation efforts.
Ben has directed successful field and fundraising programs for national campaigns on behalf of The Save Darfur Coalition, Sierra Club, Human Rights Campaign, Dream for Darfur and many other national groups. In addition, Ben has organized numerous protests, grassroots advocacy campaigns, volunteer activities, and visibility events involving as many as 100,000 people. His legislative, ballot measure, voter registration, GOTV, and extensive field experience have given Ben a unique and diverse background to support successful campaigns at all levels.
Prior to joining CEC Ben spent the last decade working on environmental, human rights, and voter engagements efforts. He has held leadership roles on high profile efforts as the Campaign Director for the Save Darfur Coalition, the State Director for the Campaign for Quality HealthCare (SEIU) in Massachusetts, Colorado State Director for the New Voters Project, and numerous environmental efforts as the Western States Field Organizer for U.S.PIRG and the Western Regional Field organizer for a corporate accountability campaign called Ecopledge.com.
Ben plays the trumpet, guitar, and sings in a band called Futaba. He is an avid outdoors person and likes to hike, backpack, kayak and mountain bike. Ben lives in Fort Collins, which he considers one of the best beer towns in America, with his wife Alana.
